Dr Niloo's office was great, her staff was really friendly and handled L well. I asked if they would please use Dr Austin's xrays to spare L exposure to xrays as we just did xrays about 3 weeks ago. She graciously agreed.
Her diagnosis was more conservative, she said that L would need at least 3 or 4 root canals and perhaps 4 fillings.
She was more proactive than Dr Austin and said that while the child was sedated, you might as well fill everything so we dont have to repeat the process.
I see the logic, but my stomach turned into knots .... 4 root canals???
She saw my anguish and said that at times you can have good dental hygiene but if the child gets their teeth early, they are breeastfed for long and have bad genetics, you can brush all you want and still get cavities ....
This helped my guilt some, my genetics are awful for teeth .. but yet, it brought up fears for the future? How do I protect his teeth if my careful hygiene and diet is not helping? I felt helpless and scared .. how do I protect my child from the fate my sisters and I shared .. dentist chairs and drills ...
She said that she did not like doing zirconium on the back teeth as it is hard to fit and you have the grind the teeth down a lot to get it to fit, metal is much more malleable and she was concerned about the length of sedation time .... but she would try and get as many zirconium caps on him as possible.
Sedation time ... ahhh .... my stomach was cramping ... I was terrified out of my mind ... I wanted so badly to cry but L was with me and I needed to keep a straight face ...
Her assistant helped me with the insurance work as I wanted to get the work preapproved. The bill would come up to around $5K ... yikes ....!!!
Her office had a $250 deposit to hold the sedation date and the anesthesiologist needed a $650 deposit ...
Phew ....
I did not make the appointment that day as I needed to research the anesthesiologist and his safety rating.
